present: staying with the trouble

I invent adventurous practices that invite and make people think, learn and wonder (together) with and within our cosmic surroundings. So far this has been the Mind-Blowing Institute, Diffracting Worlds, Fictioning Alternatives, Wild Thinking, and Body-Anarachiving. The practices have in common that they play with the conditions of value and recognition, subvert social conventions, attack norms and call into question standardized ways of thinking. Doing so, the practices bring experimental milieus of “thinking-doing” into being, in which theory and practice go hand in hand without a hierarchical or oppositional relationship. Instead multiple and diverse forms of knowledges co-exist and are not only to be understood as methods, but as ways of life.

future: horizon of hope

With my art I hope to create moments and momentum in which the possibility of another world feels real and appealing. I want to “bring theory back to life” (Sara Ahmed, 2017), activate an alternative history of thought by taking precarity as a strength and generate alternative futures with a queer sense of humor. I want to affirm that intellectuality comes in many forms.

past: unlearning

Can we dance disabled futures? I came to this question during a long and intense process of learning to walk again after a severe accident. What seemed natural turned into a crisis: how to bring my body into movement without being able to use my so called “free will”. What is freedom, when I can no longer go where I want to go? What makes me Human? What can a body do? What is agency and self-determination? I realized that what I embodied so far was nothing more than a paradigm of thought. To dance disabled futures, I had to start rethinking what thinking is and re-imagine what thinking can do. I had to move beyond the personal and transform the trauma into open problem of wonder that could bring people together in actively imagining alternative worlds.
